Puerto Rico

We went to Puerto Rico to attend the ASLO (American Society of Limnology and Oceanography) Conference. The conference was great but the best part was hanging out with friends that we haven't seen in awhile. Old San Juan is a beautiful town that reminds us so much of Spain and when we walked through the small, cobblestone streets we felt as if we were in Europe, not 40 miles away from St. Thomas! We spent the last weekend we were there traveling to Rincon, a small surf town. It was about a 3 hour drive and on the way we stopped off at various spots with spectacular ocean views!

Our flight back was at night with cloudy skies and rain. We cramped into a small plane that holds only about 6-8 passengers. You can even watch the pilot as he is flying the plane with all the controls and buttons right there in view. It is more like going on a flight adventure than actually being on a commercial plane! We flew up into the night sky and I was terrified! I am not usually the one scared of planes and I was squeezing onto Tim's hand! I think it was the fact that I couldn't see anything except for clouds and rain. The flight only lasted about 25 minutes and then we were ready to land on St. Thomas. The pilot had turned around and said something to everyone, but Tim and I were in the back and didn't hear a word he said! Turns out he just said get ready for a bumpy landing...but I heard we are making an emergency landing! Well obviously we made it back safely to share pictures of a great trip to Puerto Rico! Next time, however I will plan my flight there and back during the day so I can see where we are!
