Hello everyone...how goes it? Us, we finally made it to the USVI, St. Thomas to be exact. After an amazing road trip through the South and the length of Florida, and barely making our flight...we were excited for what was in store for us on the island.
We arrived on the night of October 7th to a wet island. We were catching the tail-end of a tropical depression that had dumped more rain in 3 days than Baltimore gets in an entire year so needless to say things were definitely wet.
After I realized American failed to put my suitcase on the flight I was on, we were off in the rental van. Actually, they "upgraded" us to a van because they didn't have a regular car for us, but it was quite nice. The real estate lady had left the key to our new apartment with the rental agency so we were good to go.
On the way up the mountain to our new place, there was water running down the road like a stream flowing under our tires. Also, there were several emergency vehicles zooming past us going to rescue some unlucky soul from their demise.
Well, we made it to our new place. We opened the door and the first scent that graced our noses was mold, mildew, nasty. It didn't take long to realize our new place had been flooded due to the heavy rain the island had been getting. We thought for a while and decided there was no way we could sleep here. There was water coming up from the tiles in the kitchen with every step we took. No way! We're out of there.
We ended up sleeping in the very hotel we stayed at when we came for our pre-move visit except it was more expensive this time around. We checked in for the night and after a couple steps down the hall we realized...it was flooded too! Slish slosh, splish splash was the sound we heard coming from the hall carpet until we reached our room. Was it flooded too? It probably had been, but someone came in and dried most of it although the tiles showed signs of water.
And that's it. Not the best night to fly in :)
